The multi-talented Jessie James Decker made a stop in Dallas at the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Strauss Square, making up her previously scheduled date that was pulled due to a COVID case in her touring group. I mean, multi-talented doesn't quite do her justice. Fashion designer, TV personality, social influencer, best-selling author, and, oh yeah, singer-songwriter are just few things that describe this highly- successful woman. The backdrop of the exquisitely-manicured, open-air venue on this warm August night complimented the musical stylings of Mrs. Decker. The singer-songwriter's blend of pop and country makes her music easily accessible to a wide range of listeners.
Performing in front of a large banner adorned with her name, Decker's energy and charm is infectious. She opens the show with "Lights Down Low", an uptempo cut that sounds like it could be found on any country music station in the US. She's exploring every inch of the stage, connecting with her fans and showcasing her dancing chops. As with most shows, I like to compare an artist's sound on their studio work versus how they perform live and in the case of Jessie, her vocals soar and her band has a nice, tight sound. She marches through a handful of her own songs before she and her band take it down a notch, opting for an acoustic intermission where she covers one of her biggest influences, Shania Twain and her hit "You're Still the One." Her cover is quite impressive, matching Twain's vocals step for step and then some. The 90-minute show included a shoutout to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, who were in attendance, glimpses of new material, and a fun time with a woman who is as humble as they come, despite her many successes.
