Nikki Hill @ Blues City Deli, St.Louis, MO

Alright, so there is a little buzz going around town about a young lady that sings the blues.  Let’s go check her out.  From time to time I tend to underestimate the popularity of a local artist and my coverage of Mrs. Hill would be one of those times.  This was first venture to Blues City Deli and I thought to myself, "local blues artist, Thursday night, small venue, get there right at show time, end result."  I was mistaken.   Upon arrival, the place was packed.  Around 200 patrons had gathered to be wowed by Nikki Hill in a building that was probably designed to hold 125 patrons comfortably.

To confine Nikki Hill to the blues artist category would be very irresponsible of me.  She is an artist for all seasons.  Covering Rock-a-Billy, Blues, Soul, Funk, and Gospel were second nature to Mrs. Hill.  Nikki’s performance was only enhanced by rising local guitar hero and husband Matt Hill.  This dynamic duo tore through originals as well as covers by Etta James, Little Richard, and Otis Redding, just to name a few.   Mrs. Hill has one EP to her credit that features the song, “I Got a Man", which has received local acclaim and airplay. Nikki and Matt are off to spread the word of their music this summer across the US and overseas. Covering this show was no easy feet.  Sharing a two foot wide area in front of the stage with dancers and oblivious phone videographers made for an interesting evening.   If the crowd at Blue City Deli on a random Thursday was any indication of the future of Mrs. Hill’s musical career, there can only be one conclusion the future is looking real good.  Thanks to Nikki Hill for allowing MTC to cover the show.  Pictures of the show are below:
