The beautiful thing about music is it can transport you to a distant memory, a random place at a random time but is somewhat significant for a variety of reasons. The first time I saw 3 Doors Down was at the Travel and Transportation (T&T) Building at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds in the very distant year of 2001. To be totally honest, I wasn't even there for 3 Doors Down. I went to see one of the openers, Fuel; just so you know how early 2000's this show was, the other opener was Oleander. While I wasn't as invested in 3 Doors Down's set, I obviously knew their music from alternative radio, which was readily available in Norman, OK. It would be the songs from their initial release, The Better Life, that would be ingrained into my brain, as they were my first recollections of the band, but coincidentally, the album the band is currently touring with, as it is the 20th anniversary of said album. WOW, I'm getting older.

The best part of a tour that is based on an anniversary is that usually expect a full-run of the album in its entirety, which 3 Doors Down does here. For 3 Doors Down, it's a bold move, as it forces the band to perform arguably their most famous song right off the bat in "Kryptonite". But I've seen this done before ala the Killers and "Mr. Brightside", which is more of a 'lighting the keg' to get the crowd going and see who stays. In both cases, it worked. The crowd was enthralled with the first three songs from The Better Life, all of which were singles from that album; "Kryptonite", "Loser", and "Duck and Run". So if you here for the hits, the old stuff, the goods, you came to the right place. The band's set was great in sound and performance, with not much fluff in terms of production. But I think a down-to-Earth band that 3 Doors Down embodies, an over-the-top production doesn't seem to fit their bill. But when you're still performing to thousands of fans more than twenty years later, you've obviously doing something right.

Photos of the show are below:

enjoy.
