Khalid Donnel Robinson, known worldwide only as Khalid, brought his Free Spirit Tour to the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.  Touring off his latest release, Free Spirit, the 21-year-old formerly of El Paso was relishing the moment as his stop in Dallas was an exuberant affair.  The crowd of mostly youngsters were caught in the moment, as Khalid was their everything for the next two hours.  From the onset, Khalid was jovial, almost giddy as he ran back and forth on the AAC stage, performing nearly every cut from Free Spirit and over half of his previous release, American Teen.  With an outstanding production, fantastic live band, and handful of backup dancers, Khalid's show was a spectacle of the highest regard but in the simplest of terms.  While arena bands like Muse showcase the grandiose of performances, Khalid's LED panels and projections were simply mood lighting for a night of fun and connection.  Clairo, his opener, had a much more reserved set but provided the boost to set the tone for the evening and cleared the way for Khalid to knock down the crowd.  I must admit, not having seen Khalid before, I was blown away myself.  A fantastic performer, a genuine person, and someone who looks like he loves what he's doing.  Can't ask for much more than that.
