Memories of yesteryear are typically a bit more dramatic than something within recent memory. But I'm going to be honest, HEALTH was one of the loudest shows I've ever been to. I first saw the LA noise band when they performed at the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn as part of the annual summer Pool Parties. So, I cautiously entered Three Links in Deep Ellum, Dallas with the notion that this show would be loud. But before HEALTH graced the stage, the packed house was treated to some pretty awesome openers in Cutter and Blackstone Rangers. Cutter, accompanied with Hex Cult, performed a thumping, fuzzed-out set under darkness but had the crowd head bobbing and enjoying themselves. Blackstone Rangers on the other hand, delivered a precise dose of dreamy electro-pop and had Three Links dancing around. By time HEALTH took the stage, the crowd was overflowing onto each side of the stage. It didn't take long for HEALTH to dominate the small venue, opening with "Crimewave" and "Die Slow". The show was intense and to the point, with little banter between the band and crowd. The sound wasn't as loud as the Pool Parties' show but it definitely a ton of fun.
Big props for Parade of Flesh for curating this event and Red Bull for their continued support of music in Dallas. Photos of the show are below:
