To hear that the Drums had lost their guitarist only a week before, I was a little skeptical about how they would sound when they played at the Loft in Dallas. I had seen the band perform at the Insound 10th Anniversary Party at Brooklyn Bowl, when the band was lead by vocalist Jonathan Pierce, guitarists Jacob Graham and Adam Kessler, drummer Connor Hanwick, two backup singers and a backing track. This time around, they had no backup singers, Graham was now on bass, their drummer and vocalist remained intact, and now had a friend replace Kessler on guitar; but to be honest, their live set didn't suffer any set backs. The music was just as enjoyable live as it is on their studio tracks. Not much on banter, the band steamrolled through a dozen song set, including songs like "Best Friend" and "Let's Go Surfing" which really got the near-capacity crowd dancing and singing. Needless to say, their set was pretty fantastic. Also, Houston's Young Girls were also pretty great; the opening band had a catchy surf sound and had the then smaller crowd bobbing their heads. Look out for them. Pictures and videos of the show are below:
enjoy.
