Left Lane is a two-member, loud-ass blues band out of Ft. Wayne Indiana. Band members Fredrick "Joe "Evans IV (guitar/vocals) and Brenn Beck (drums/vocals/et cetera) have been a band since 2004. Left Lane plays a style of blues that comes from the juke joints and front porches of Mississippi and that is as dirty as a restroom at a Chinese buffet. After an impromptu chat with the boys from Indiana during their setup, it was time to bring the noise. And bring the noise they did. If there was ever an '11' setting on a Marshall amp, Mr. Evans finds it and surpasses it. Playing an assortment of off-brand guitars from wooden back chair with a six pack of Stag, Evans rattled every bone in the room. Not be outdone, Brenn Beck destroyed more than one piece of percussive gear on this night in St. Louis. The band played a hodgepodge of blues covers and originals. As the night was fading, you could sense that this band could play all night if given the chance. Sadly though this night had to end and Left Lane was off to their next adventure in Tulsa then on to SXSW. A big thanks to Left Lane for allowing me last minute access to their show and making me feel welcome with your tales from the road. Pictures of the show are below:
As
I cover shows in 2013, I'm seeing a trend: the Blues. But I'm alright
with that. This show was kind of a last minute venture as the venue
Blank Space put on their "Stag Night" (think beer). It appears that
Blank Space wanted to bring a knockout punch to this pre-St. Patty's Day
celebration. Two opening bands Rusty Nail and Red Headed Strangers
primed the pump with a good dose of Irish folk and songs about drinking.
As one could imagine with Stag beer flowing and jigs being danced, this
crowd was more than ready when Left Lane Cruiser took to the small
basement stage somewhere around midnight.
