The Outlaw Music Festival could be best summarized as a ten-stop, touring festival including Willie Nelson and a good ole heaping of fantastic artists, including Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Jason Isbell, My Morning Jacket, Sheryl Crow, the Avett Brothers and many more.  For the tour's opening date at the Starplex Pavilion in Dallas, the tour included the "Red Headed Stranger", the aforementioned Crow and Avett Bros, Texas' own Hayes Carll, Nashville's Margo Price, and Willie's son's band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real.  The Texas heat set the stage as storms passed to the east but the crowds came in droves to catch an afternoon full of fantastic country sounds.  Price and Carll set the tone early with good ole fashioned country music while the Avett Brothers kicked the festival into another gear.  Their blend of folk, rock, and Americana made for a joyous set and got the crowd on their feet.  While I missed Crow's set, the crowd at Starplex had exploded before Nelson's set, proving that the 84-year old from Abbot, TX still has some major star power.  As Nelson stepped onstage, the crowd greeted him with a standing ovation that would rival most artists in their prime.  Nelson took little time before strumming his trusty guitar, "Trigger", before jumping into "Whiskey River".  Nelson played a staggering 23 songs including some of my personal favorites, "Georgia on My Mind" and "Always on My Mind".  It was truly a bucket list moment for me to be able to cover the living legend.
