The xx are currently riding high on their latest release, I See You, the third album in their small but polished discography, following 2012's Coexist.  Their fame and popularity have grown in leaps and bounds since their last album, as witness by their nonstop headlining slots at nearly every established music festival, including their high-profile late night spot at Coachella.  The sound of I See You is a clear departure from the tried and true sound of the band's first two albums and takes on the life of the band's DJ and electronic guru, Jamie XX.  Jamie XX's last album, In Colour, not only received a Grammy nod but also created a refreshing road map to the band's latest album.

The band's stop in Dallas, their first since their two-night residency at the Granada Theater in 2013, brought a huge crowd of fans to the South Side Ballroom.  Flanked by spotlights and a huge, lit stage underneath, the trio played a mix of their latest material (six songs from I See You) and a nice helping of their older stuff, namely fan favorite tracks from their debut album, xx, including "Crystalised", "VCR", and "Intro".  But it might have been the band's cover of Jamie XX's "Loud Places" which led the band off stage before jumping into the existing beat to play their lead single from I See You, "On Hold" that really took the cake.  The band finished their set to "Angels", a song that holds a special place in my heart, as it is the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding.
