Choosing to forego a show opener, fans of Modest Mouse and Brand New were treated to two, full-length sets from both bands in Dallas on a Friday night. Opening up the show that night was Modest Mouse. Modest Mouse played a thirteen-song setlist that left many fans wanting more from the band after they were finished. Just by wandering around the concert grounds after the show, it was very clear that many die-hard Modest Mouse fans were left disappointed with both their set length and song choices. Most noticeably absent from their setlist was their 2004 hit “Float On”. Disappointment soon ended once Long Island rockers, Brand New, took the stage.
On a dimly lit stage, a solo Jesse Lacey opened up the night with fan favorite “Soco Amaretto Lime”. From there, they spent the night working through a seventeen-song setlist that would have made it hard for any fan to complain about. Perhaps the only song missing from the night was the always highly-requested, “Play Crack The Sky”. I have been to every single Brand New concert in Dallas since 2005 and this was by far the best performance I’ve seen from the band. Brand New recently announced that 2018 would be the last year they would be playing music together. With their in your face stage presence and the playfulness that could be seen from the usually reserved Jesse Lacey, it was clear they wanted these last few years to go down as their best. This current tour winds down in Portland, Oregon on July 31st. Photos of the show are below:
