Insound's 10th Anniverary Party @ Brooklyn Bowl

Spent my Thursday evening at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg to celebrate Insound's 10th Anniversary with a night of music. On the bill included Real Estate, the Drums, Suckers, These Are Powers and Cymbals Eat Guitars. Needless to say, I was pumped to see Cymbals Eat Guitars again (Northside Festival) since they are a top-notch band with a great live sound. I was also very eager to see Real Estate and the Drums; I really wasn't that aware of the other two bands' music. If I were to rank the performances, it would be something like this:

1. Cymbals Eat Guitars
2. The Drums
3. Real Estate
4. Suckers
5. These Are Powers

Honestly, I didn't like These Are Powers' music; it was really hard to decipher what they were trying to accomplish. Suckers were actually pretty good despite my initial opinion of them as "there's already one Yeasayer". I think it was because the Drums had such an energetic set that Suckers' music kind of brought the mood down a notch. No hard feelings. There's really nothing memorable about Real Estate except that they are quality musicians that make great music; no flash or glam, just solid musicianship. No offense. Cymbals Eat Guitars simply had the best show of the night, though the Drums had the crowd behind them. I was kind of disappointed in how many people had left before Cymbals' show because they missed out on a great set. All in all, it was a great night of tunes. Oh yeah, don't forget to visit Brooklyn Bowl. It's pretty snazzy; put together very well and aesthetically pleasing to all the senses.

enjoy.
